I haven't been on here for a few days and I can see there has been much discussion. I just want everyone to know that I think the IWA is great and so is everyone involved with the IWA. For those of you that don't know,there is a lot of work done behind the scenes. For the officers and the board members this isn't just a "summer job." We work year round to help our sport grow by trying to get races and sponsors. We don't just work at the races. We work all week long during the summer and we actually work all winter long and believe it or not we don't get paid. We do it to better our sport and to support the IWA. So it's not all about the money as "some people" think. I am not complaining either about not being paid because I knew what was involved when I ran for the treasurer position. For those of you who think we do nothing - I just spent a week or so updating addresses and printing and mailing 1099's. I am also on the phone often with Mike discussing issues that need to be discussed. I know Mike and Jen have been doing a lot of work already for next summer and Shawn and Mike D. too. Anyone who doesn't think we do anything can call and ask Arlen. He will tell you how much there is to do behind the scenes. I can't count the number of times that Arlen said being the president was like having a second full time job. As for your question, Bobby, about Arlen, who says no one likes him? And this topic really has nothing to do with him so I don't know why you are dragging him into this. He has enough to deal with in his life right now.
Some points I would like to touch on(Most pertain to you Bobby):
1.Every racer needs to help. If you aren't happy with the number of race sites or locations, then help us find one and set it up. Thank you to Dennis and Kurt. They both did it.
2.We repeatedly say that everyone who is a member has and opinion and your voice is heard. Thats true, but if you don't come to meetings to give your opinion then don't complain, its not our fault you don't show up.
3.Bobby, you say you don't know costs because our info is not given to the public. You are right, it is not, but it is available to all annual members. I had the reports printed and on the tables at Grantsburg and not a single person looked at them. I also brought them to every other race in case anyone asked to see them and no one did. I also passed them out at the annual meeting for everyone to look at. Sorry if you were "too mad" at someone to show up.
4.You complained because you don't get paid mileage. Well you aren't coming to the race to work, you "choose" to come and race.
5.You think officers should volunteer because they are racers. I am an officer and I don't race and I do volunteer all the time I put into the IWA at home when I could be doing other things, but that is my choice, just like it is your choice to race.
6.Bottom line, we provide and pay the officials because they need to be consistent and know what they are doing.
7.You always think we should cut money and everyone is so money hungry. Well no one is doing this to get rich, thats obvious. Even the racers that win all the time, never get what they stick into this sport. The money is nice so the drivers get a little compensation.
8.Skip gets paid $700??? Last time I checked, I was the treasurer and I make out and sign the checks and I have never paid him that much. We are lucky Skip does it for as little as he does.(By the way, good job Skip)!
Lastly, Bobby we aren't trying to get defensive, we are just trying to make a point because you just don't seem to get it. There are a lot of us that do a lot of work for little or no money. We do it because we love watercross and the IWA and we don't want to see it fade away. You also say you always get shot down when you voice your opinion, it is because you are the only one that brings these things up and never attends a meeting. Sorry, but you set yourself up for this. It is like you like to stir the pot. Sorry everyone for writing a book, but I needed to get the facts out there to everyone who has been reading all of this. Thanks for your time!
